so, I started a podcast...
and I'm loving it
At the end of May, I did something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time: I started a podcast.
I know, I know. There are plenty of podcasts out there (and Substacks). But in my first year of parenthood, I found myself frustrated with the online content surrounding babies and motherhood. It’s so all or nothing, so black and white. And it’s the same for social media: people think it’s ruined our democracy (okay, maybe it has) and there are no longer any benefits to it. Critics think we should all log off, touch grass, and move on with our lives. Um? That’s a little too extreme for my taste.
My podcast is called It’s a Lot, and it’s about things that are a lot: social media, parenthood, and more. We have honest conversations and make space for messy, conflicting feelings. Empathy and nuance are the core of the show. You can listen to it now wherever you get your podcasts! The latest episode, an interview with artist and mom Christy Roushey, is a great place to start.
I love all the conversations the podcast has sparked so far. People are chiming in via comments and DMs with their real feelings about topics we discussed in the episode or reacting to favorite quotes. One person even said they teared up during the first episode 🥹 The goal isn’t to make people cry, but it makes me happy that it made someone feel something. That’s pretty special.
To some, marketing a podcast is one of the hardest and least fun parts. For me, my digital marketing background is a huge asset; the marketing piece comes naturally to me. I’ve enjoyed making Instagram carousels featuring quotes from each episode.
I’m working with the Lunchador Podcast Network and they have lots of helpful software, including Opus, a tool that helps turn your podcast footage into short clips for social media. Anytime I’ve thought “oh, I want to make sure to share that moment in a Reel,” it ends up being one of the first few clips Opus generates.
When I get excited about things, I have a tendency to get ahead of myself with planning. I have a huge list of guest ideas and topics and am trying to slow my roll and just enjoy the process (which is hard for me!). But it’s been a fun ride already and I’m excited for all that’s ahead!
Aside from the massive endeavor that is launching a new podcast, here’s what I’ve been up to:
Spoke on a panel for CLIMB, a leadership development program run by the Chamber of Commerce. I’m an alumna of the program and I’ve changed a lot since I finished CLIMB in 2020, so it was a nice opportunity to reflect on how far I’ve come.
Learned how to edit audio in Adobe Audition! 😱 Despite being nervous about it being challenging, I’ve already learned a lot and gained new skills. It can be tedious work, but it’s also enjoyable because you can get into such a deep, focused state while editing, and I rarely have the opportunity to focus deeply these days.
Was in conversation with author
at Writers & Books in celebration of the one year anniversary of her debut novel, Log Off. We played Jeopardy! with questions themed around her book and social media. The audience loved Kristen’s fun prizes, like a Charlie’s Angels VHS, a Fiona Apple CD, and an AOL hat!Planned and pulled off an epic dog parade with our neighbors to celebrate my baby’s first birthday!! 🥳

Links Roundup
📱: On the blog, I wrote about 7 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a New Instagram Account in 2025.
🗣️: In July, my book club will be reading But How Are You, Really by Ella Dawson, and Ella will be joining us via Zoom for a Q&A 😊 This romance has a lot of heart and depth to it and features a bi girlie recovering from an abusive relationship and struggling in a toxic work environment. But don’t worry, it’s not a downer: she finds queer community, realizes how much her friends care about her, and has a chance to get back with her college rebound hookup, the cinnamon roll bro who got away 🩷🔥
💻: The Onion is doing the most in 2025. In this excellent article, I loved learning about their approach and how being unafraid to punch up and call out fascism is helping them thrive in a time when many media companies are dying.
📖: Catch me hyping queer books during Pride Month and all year long. If you want some excellent queer books to read this months, browse my LGBTQ+ Lit You’ll Love list.

This clip about how different someone’s two kids are made me laugh way too hard.
A “Mr. Blue Sky” cover that is impressive as hell.
This visit to the world’s largest Arby’s was oddly captivating. Also captivating? This stellar Bollywood dance featuring Elmo, Bert, and Ernie at Universal Studios Singapore.
That's all, folks! ✌️

I’m loving the podcast so much. Deeply relatable and I appreciate that guests talk about taking breaks from social media, because anyone remotely creative is basically told we should be on social media all the time with a strategy and goals and I find that deeply overwhelming and, lately, impossible.
